## Viewer Comments and Ratings for Your Streaming Platform

Give your audience a place to talk under every video and a one-tap rating on every title, on your own branded streaming platform.

### Comments and Ratings That Build a Community Around Your Videos

Vodlix gives every video on your streaming platform a comments section and a one-tap rating. Viewers open the comments under the player, read what others said, reply and add their own. They rate a title with the thumbs-up Rate button. You switch comments and ratings on or off for the whole platform in the admin panel. For live events, an optional Real-time Chat integration can add a chat room to the titles you pick. It suits sports clubs that stream matches on [live TV](/features/live-tv), churches and ministries, live event organisers and any community that wants to talk about what it watches.

#### Comments under videos

Viewers talk on the watch page.

#### One-tap ratings

A thumb beside Play on every title.

#### Your switches

Turn each one on or off in settings.

### Let Viewers Comment Under Every Video on Your Streaming Platform

Every video on your streaming platform can have its own comments section. On the watch page, viewers press Show Comments under the player to open it. Signed-in viewers type in the box and press Post, and the comment appears with their profile picture, name and date. Other viewers can reply, and replies are grouped under the comment behind Show Replies. Each comment has a thumbs up and a thumbs down with a count, so viewers can show which comments they agree with. Visitors who are not signed in can read the conversation and are asked to sign in when they try to join it.

### Collect One-Tap Ratings on Every Streaming Title

Viewers rate a title with one tap on the thumbs-up Rate button. On a phone it sits under Play on the title page, next to Add to My List and Share. On the web it sits beside the title name under the player, next to the comments button. Once tapped, the thumb turns solid, and it stays that way when the viewer comes back, so they can see what they have already rated. For more on thumb ratings, see [like and dislike ratings](/features/like-dislike-video).

### Comments and Ratings for Streaming on Phones and the Web

The same comments and ratings appear on your website on a computer and in the browser on a phone. A thread belongs to the video, not to the screen, so a fan can comment on the laptop during a match and reply from a phone on the way home. Everyone sees one conversation under the video, wherever they watch it.

### Turn Streaming Comments and Ratings On or Off in Settings

Two switches in the admin panel decide whether viewers can rate and comment on videos. They are under Settings, Display & Listing, on the Content tab, in a group called Ratings & Comments: Allow video ratings and Allow video comments. To keep the conversation friendly, your team can remove comments. Deleting comments is a separate admin permission, Admin Delete Access, so you decide which staff roles can moderate.

### Add Comments and Ratings to Your Own Streaming Apps With the API

Comments and ratings are part of the Vodlix public API, so you can use them in an app or website you build yourself. A request to /v2/rate rates a title. A GET request to /v2/comments lists the comments on a video, page by page, and a POST request to the same address adds a comment or a reply. The storefront uses these same calls, so a comment posted from your app shows up on your website too. See the [REST API](/features/restful-api) for the details.

### Live Chat for Streaming Events as an Optional Integration

Vodlix offers live chat for streaming events as an optional integration, not as a built-in feature. The Real-time Chat integration runs on Firebase, PubNub or Ably, with your own account and credentials from that provider. Once it is set up, you switch chat on for the titles you choose, so a live event can get a chat room while the rest of your catalogue keeps its comments. Chat does not load until the provider credentials are in place. See the other tools Vodlix connects to in the [integrations directory](/features/integrations).

**Q: Does Vodlix have live chat for streaming?**

Yes, as an optional integration. The Real-time Chat integration adds chat rooms backed by Firebase, PubNub or Ably, and you switch chat on for the titles you choose, such as a live event. Comments and one-tap ratings are built into the platform.

**Q: Can viewers comment on videos on my streaming platform?**

Yes. Signed-in viewers post comments under the player on the watch page, reply to each other and vote comments up or down. Visitors who are not signed in can read existing comments and are asked to sign in when they want to take part.

**Q: How do I turn comments or ratings off?**

In the admin panel, open Settings, then Display & Listing, then the Content tab. The Ratings & Comments group has two switches, Allow video ratings and Allow video comments, which apply to the whole platform.

**Q: Can I remove inappropriate comments?**

Yes. Deleting comments is controlled by the Admin Delete Access permission. Give it to the staff roles who moderate your community, and keep it away from roles that should not remove what viewers write.

**Q: Do comments and ratings work on phones?**

Yes. In a phone browser the watch page shows the same comments thread as on a computer, and the title page has the thumbs-up Rate button under Play. A viewer can rate or comment on one screen and see it on the other.

**Q: Can I add comments and ratings to my own app?**

Yes. The Vodlix public API has endpoints to rate a title and to list and post comments, so an app or website you build yourself can use the same comments and ratings as your storefront.
