Run Your Streaming Platform on Your Own Custom Domain

Your viewers type your address, see your name in the browser bar and share links that point to you. Connect the domain in the admin with a DNS record, and the platform sets up HTTPS for it.

Custom domain streaming platform on Vodlix: a branded storefront open at https://www.yourbrand.com on a laptop and on a phone, with the padlock in the address bar

What a Custom Domain Does for Your Streaming Platform

A custom domain puts your streaming platform on an address you own, such as www.yourbrand.com, instead of the default address every new platform starts with. Viewers browse, sign in and watch on your domain, and every link they copy or share carries your name. You connect it from the admin: pick a record type, type the domain, add the record the screen shows at your DNS provider, and verify. Once the record checks out, the platform issues the SSL certificate, so your site loads over HTTPS with the padlock in the address bar. Custom domains are included on every Vodlix plan, which suits any business launching a streaming service under its own brand.

Viewers Watch Your Streaming Platform on Your Own Domain

With a custom domain, your viewers open your streaming platform at your own address and see your name in the browser bar, not ours. The home page, the catalogue, every title page and the player all load on that domain, under your logo. That is the address you print on posters, say in adverts and put in your newsletter, and it is the one viewers remember and come back to.

Every Title Link Carries Your Custom Domain

Every movie, series and live channel page sits on your custom domain, so every link to it points to you. Viewers can copy a title's link from the address bar or tap Copy Url on the title page, and the link they send to friends carries your name. On a phone the same pages open in the mobile browser at the same address. Search results and link previews use that address too; SEO Tools covers how each title page is set up for search and sharing.

Secure HTTPS Sign-In on Your Custom Domain

Your custom domain is served over HTTPS, so viewers see the padlock when they sign in, create an account or choose a plan. The platform issues the SSL certificate for your domain once its DNS record is verified, and there is no certificate for you to buy or upload. A secure address matters most on the pages where viewers type a password or pay, and browsers warn people away from sites without one.

Configure Custom Domain in the Vodlix admin: CNAME record selected, yourbrand.com with Enable www, and the CNAME record and target to add at the DNS provider

Connect a Custom Domain to Your Streaming Platform in Three Steps

You connect a custom domain from Vodlix Settings in the admin, with no developer needed. Open Configure Custom Domain and pick a record type: CNAME is recommended and works for subdomains, and for a root domain when your DNS provider supports ALIAS or ANAME records; an A record is for providers where CNAME is not possible. Type your domain, tick Enable www if you also want the www address to work, and the screen shows the exact record to add at your DNS provider, with a copy button for each value.

Configure Custom Domain after verification: yourbrand.com marked SSL live, with the message Your domain is live

Verify Your Domain and Get the SSL Certificate Automatically

When the record is in place, click Verify DNS and the platform checks it for you, for the bare domain and for www when you turned it on. If something is not right yet, the screen says why, for example that your domain is not pointing to the platform yet, or that a Cloudflare proxy sits in front of an A record, which must be set to DNS only. Some domains are asked for one more record to prove ownership, shown on the same screen. Once the checks pass, the SSL certificate is issued automatically, usually within a few minutes, and the domain is marked SSL live. Your original platform address keeps working alongside it. To move to a different domain later, use Change Domain: the current domain keeps serving viewers until the new one is verified.

A Custom Domain Is Part of Your White Label Streaming Platform

Your domain is one piece of a platform that carries your brand everywhere. White Label puts your logo, colours and name on the website, mobile apps and TV apps, and SEO Tools helps people find your titles on your domain through search.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my own domain for my Vodlix streaming platform?
Yes. Every Vodlix plan lets you connect your own domain, such as watch.yourbrand.com or yourbrand.com. You set it up in the admin under Vodlix Settings with Configure Custom Domain, add one DNS record at your domain provider, and verify it.
Does Vodlix provide an SSL certificate for my custom domain?
Yes. Once your DNS record is verified, the SSL certificate for your domain is issued automatically, usually within a few minutes, and the site loads over HTTPS. You do not need to buy or upload a certificate yourself.
Should I use a CNAME or an A record?
Use a CNAME record where you can; the admin marks it as recommended. It works for subdomains, and for a root domain when your DNS provider supports ALIAS or ANAME records. Use an A record only when your provider cannot add a CNAME.
Can my streaming site work on both the www and non-www address?
Yes. Tick Enable www when you configure the domain and add the record for the www address as well. Verification then checks both addresses.
Does a custom domain work with Cloudflare?
Yes, with one rule. A CNAME record works with Cloudflare. An A record must be set to DNS only (grey cloud); an A record behind the Cloudflare proxy (orange cloud) fails verification, so switch to a CNAME if you need the proxy.
What happens to my original platform address after I add a custom domain?
It keeps working alongside your custom domain. If you later want a different domain, use Change Domain on the same screen; your current domain keeps serving viewers until the new one is verified.
