Let viewers sign in with an account they already have, on the web, on phones and on smart TVs, with LDAP sign-in for organisations.
Single sign-on (SSO) for a video platform lets viewers sign in with an account they already have, such as Google, Facebook or Apple, instead of creating another password. With Vodlix, you switch each provider on in your admin and a button for it appears on your login page, next to email and password. Fewer new passwords means fewer people giving up at signup. Every viewer still gets a normal account on your platform, with profiles, My List and viewing history, and you keep the customer relationship.
One tap to sign in.
For iPhone and iPad viewers.
No typing with the remote.
Viewers sign in with one tap on the account they already use. Your login page shows a button for each provider you switch on, under the usual email and password fields, on desktop and on phones. The viewer taps Google, Facebook or Apple, confirms with that provider, and lands back on your platform signed in. Your mobile apps can show the same social buttons on their signup screen, and you can hide them there if you prefer.
On a smart TV, viewers sign in without typing a password on the remote. The TV app shows a short sign-in code and a QR code. The viewer scans it, or opens the address on screen on their phone or computer, enters the code and signs in there, including with Google, Facebook or Apple. The TV then signs itself in. Viewers who prefer can still sign in with an email and password on the TV. See all the TV apps this works on.
Viewers stay in control of the social accounts linked to their profile. In their account settings they can see which accounts are connected and disconnect any of them. Disconnecting does not delete their account on your platform, so they keep their subscription, profiles and history. On your side, a viewer who joins through Google, Facebook or Apple is an ordinary account in User Management, with the same record, devices and subscription details as anyone else.
Adding Google or Facebook login takes a few minutes in your admin. Create an app with Google or Facebook, paste its ID and secret into that provider's panel, and copy the redirect address the panel shows back into your app with the provider. Because the app is yours, the consent screen viewers see shows your platform's name. A provider's button only appears once it is set up and switched on, so viewers never see a sign-in option that does not work yet.
Sign in with Apple gives iPhone and iPad viewers the login they expect. It sits in the same list as Google and Facebook, with its own switch, and is enabled through your iOS app's settings. Each provider is switched on or off separately, so you can offer Google and Apple and leave Facebook out, or add one later without touching the others.
Social login is one switch, in the same settings as your other sign-in rules. Turn it on and it works next to email and password and next to one-time code sign-in, so each viewer picks the way that suits them. The rest of the flow, from signup fields to password recovery, is covered on Signup & Sign In. To protect the passwords and codes behind every sign-in, see Login & Account Security.
Companies and universities can let staff or students sign in with the identity they already have. For them, Vodlix offers directory and single sign-on integrations: LDAP directory authentication; UUID SSO, which signs viewers in with an anonymous identifier and stores no personal data, for when your own system manages identity; and Firebase Authentication. LDAP depends on your plan and these integrations are enabled per platform, so tell us how your organisation signs people in and we will confirm the right option.
